The one-litre refill pouches and 500ml aluminium bottle will roll into Tesco on 20 June (rsp: £3.29-£4.50)

Original Source is launching a range of shower gel refills and a reusable bottle into Tesco this month.

Its two “most popular” shower gels – Tingly Mint & Tea Tree and Tropical Coconut & Shea Butter– will be available in one-litre refill pouches (rsp: £3.29). These boast 85% less plastic packaging than four standard 250ml shower gel bottles, according to the brand.

The 500ml refillable bottle, meanwhile, is made from aluminium and features a plastic pump (rsp: £4.50). The lines will roll exclusively into Tesco on 20 June.

Original Source said the new products marked a step towards owner PZ Cussons’ goals of achieving B Corp status by 2026 and reducing its plastic content per kilogram of product by 25% by 2025.

As a “key player within the category” the brand had a “responsibility to reduce the impact of the packaging materials that we use”, said Original Source UK marketing director Megan Harrison.

The new bottle and refills were “a hugely positive step in our journey, giving people the option to reduce their own plastic footprint”, Harrison added.

The NPD comes shortly after World Refill Day on 17 June, and follows a raft of sustainable innovations in personal care. Major brands like Head & Shoulders, Pantene and Aussie already come in refillable formats.

Earlier this year, Happier Beauty revealed plans to launch a refillable toothpaste dispenser, and male grooming brand The Bluebeards Revenge last year launched refillable underarm roll-ons and a range of shaving refills.
