Coral reusable water bottles made with 100% recycled plastic

Coral is a company with reusable water bottles that are made from 100% recycled plastic. These reusable water bottles are currently the only United States company to offer an option made entirely from ocean-bound plastic.

The concept is simple–to make an environmentally cleaner water bottle. Coral currently offers two, 500ML options, the Classic and the Reef. Both are made from recycled plastic and feature caps made of all-natural bamboo. The bottles are intended to be endlessly reusable, which is obviously a better option than single-use plastic water bottles.

Considering less than 10% of the world’s plastic is actually recycled, a single Coral bottle can make a major impact on the reduction of plastic waste. Coral bottles are made in conjunction with organizations that clean the beaches, ridding them of plastic waste. The plastic in these bottles is sourced from waterways and beaches in the Philippines, Indonesia, Haiti, Brazil and Egypt.

It’s collected by fairly-paid workers in order to provide jobs and self-reliance, while simultaneously cleaning up the beaches. In addition to the pay for the plastic collection, workers receive additional basic family necessities like groceries, cooking fuel, school tuition, health insurance, digital connectivity, cell phone minutes, smartphones and digital tablets.

After collection, the plastic is cleaned and ground into pellets that are then converted into Coral bottles. Removing this plastic from the ocean pathway means healthier plants and animals in the marine environment.

Reusing materials always requires fewer resources than producing virgin materials. In the case of Coral bottles, the manufacturing process uses 90% less water and creates 75% fewer emissions. That means a lower carbon and pollution footprint than new plastic made from petroleum. Since the caps are made from natural materials, the bamboo can be recycled, burned, or reused. The bottles are 100% recyclable, too.

Coral offsets all shipping emissions to maintain carbon-neutral shipping. “This circular economy results in cleaner oceans, cleaner products and social impact,” the company says.
