CHICAGO — Manufacturers are responding to the consumer trend of wanting more sustainable products. As a result, convenience-store operators have multiple aluminum water bottles to choose from to put in their cold vaults.

About 73% of consumers are willing to change their purchase habits to improve the environment, according to the Top 20 CPG Predictions for 2020 from sales and marketing agency Acosta, Jacksonville, Fla.

Water companies such as PathWater, Aquahydrate and Alkaline88 have released aluminum bottles to reduce the use of single-use plastic.

PathWater has released sparkling and alkaline water in refillable aluminum bottles.

The Fremont, Calif.-based company’s waters are infused with electrolytes and balanced pH and come in a refreshed brushed-aluminum bottle with minimalist branding to encourage reuse. The company said its mission is to end the use of single-use plastic water bottles.

The Alkaline water is available at drinkpathwater.com for $22.99 for a nine-pack of 20-ounce bottles and $27.99 for a nine pack of 25-ounce bottles. The sparkling water is available for $22.99 for a nine pack of 20-ounce bottles. Cases can be purchased in April on Amazon and individual bottles will be available at retailers later in the year, according to PathWater.

Aquahydrate Inc., Los Angeles, has rolled out its new aluminum package.

"We listened to the feedback from our customers and our extensive social-media base, who overwhelmingly wanted to see an environmentally sound package without compromising our crisp, clean taste or functional benefits,” said Matthew Howison, acting president of Aquahydrate.

The resealable 750-mL aluminum bottle will launch in spring 2020 at retailers nationwide.

Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Alkaline Water Co. acquired Aquahydrate in 2019.

The Alkaline Water Co.’s flagship brand, Alkaline88, is available in aluminum bottles in 500-mL sustainable single-serve packaging.

“Consumers are demanding more eco-friendly choices, and we are excited to now offer a refillable, resealable and 100% recyclable option,” said Richard Wright, president and CEO of Alkaline Water.
